Marty Fleckman: A PGA Tour Legend is Born

Today, we celebrate the birthday of PGA Tour record holder, Marty Fleckman! Born in Port Arthur, Texas in 1944, Fleckman etched his name in golfing history in 1967.

At the young age of 24, Fleckman made a remarkable debut at the Cajun Classic. He defeated Jack Montgomery in a dramatic sudden-death playoff, sinking a winning 30-foot birdie putt on the very first hole. This historic victory cemented Fleckman's place as the first player ever to win a PGA Tour tournament in his very first official start.

Fleckman's win was nothing short of sensational. He closed out regulation play with two consecutive birdies, including a clutch 23-footer on the 18th hole to force a playoff with Montgomery. His hot streak continued with the winning birdie putt in the playoff, solidifying an unforgettable performance.

While Fleckman's achievement remains unique, three other golfers have since managed to win on their PGA Tour debuts, inspired by his record-breaking performance.
